This policy explains what personal information Law Wise Professional Corporation collects through this website, why, and what your rights are. The firm is subject to Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Information about clients is also protected by a lawyer’s duty of confidentiality, described in our confidentiality statement.
Who is responsible
The firm has designated a privacy officer, a lawyer at Law Wise, who is accountable for the firm’s handling of personal information. The privacy officer’s name is available on request. Contact: Law Wise Professional Corporation, 33 City Centre Dr., Suite 606, Mississauga, ON L5B 2N5; telephone 647-948-7819; email info@lawwise.ca.
What we collect through this website
- What you send us. When you use a form on this site we receive your name, telephone number, email address, the area of law you choose and your message. A copy of each message is kept in the website’s database and a copy is sent to the firm by email.
- Technical information. Like most websites, the server that hosts this site records the internet address of each visitor’s device, the browser type, the pages requested and the date and time.
- Spam protection. Our forms are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a form is being sent by a person. To do that, Cloudflare receives technical information about your browser and connection.
- Cookies. This website does not use advertising or analytics cookies. Small files that are needed for the site and its security features to work may be stored on your device.
The Google rating shown on our home page is retrieved by our server. Your browser is not connected to Google in order to display it. Links to Google Maps and to social media sites take you to those services, which have their own privacy policies.
Why we collect it and how we use it
- to reply to your enquiry and arrange a consultation
- to check for conflicts of interest before a lawyer discusses your matter
- to keep the website secure and working
- to meet our legal and professional obligations
We do not sell personal information, and we do not add you to a mailing list because you sent us an enquiry.
Consent
By sending us a form or an email you consent to our using the information in it for the purposes above. You can withdraw your consent by contacting us, subject to legal and professional requirements to keep certain records.
Who else handles the information
We use service providers to run this website and our email, including a website hosting company, an email provider and Cloudflare for spam protection. They handle information on our behalf and only for those services. Some of them may store or process information outside Canada, where it is subject to the laws of that place. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
How long we keep it and how we protect it
Enquiries from people who do not become clients are kept only as long as needed to respond and to maintain our conflict records, and are then deleted. Client files are kept for the periods our professional obligations require. The website uses an encrypted connection, access to messages is limited to the firm, and we take reasonable steps to protect information. No website or email system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, which is why we ask you not to send sensitive details through the form.
Your rights
- You may ask what personal information we hold about you, how it has been used and to whom it has been disclosed, and you may ask to see it.
- You may ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Make the request in writing. We will respond within 30 days, unless the Act allows a longer time.
- If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, 30 Victoria Street, Gatineau, Quebec K1A 1H3, priv.gc.ca.
